Jan studied veterinary medicine in Edinburgh and joined VCF during those student years. After working in England for a while in an orthopaedic referral practice he began serving with Samaritan’s Purse as their global roaming veterinarian; setting up projects to help farmers restock their farm animals after natural and man-made disasters so that they can support their families with food and provide incomes for their households.
While serving in El Salvador after the earthquakes of 2001, he met and married Flor who was also working with SP in the El Salvador field office.
During Jan’s time in El Salvador he became burdened for the Pipil indigenous population and after learning they had no Bible in their own language set up a project called Ne Bibliaj TIk Nawat (The Bible in Nawat). This is a project to translate and publish the Bible in Nawat, an indigenous language of El Salvador; producing a quality translation of the Old and New Testament into Nawat from the original Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek. (See the website for more information).
They have a lovely daughter, Valentina.
