Using the story of Elijah from 1 Kings 18-19 and 2 Kings 2, we looked at 4 scenes in Elijah’s life:
Under the Broom tree Exhausted depressed and discouraged
At the cave Seeking a fresh revelation from God
On the mountaintop Experiencing the power of God and
seeing breakthough
In the whirlwind Passing on a legacy
Elijah lived in challenging times and we looked at these four scenes from his life and reflected on the experiences that we are facing now. We asked questions such as, what season are you living in, why is that and what is the prayer of your heart?
We, too, live in challanging times. We are bombarded by many different voices that would seek to have us live in confusion and fear but only one voice matters, the voice of God bringing clarity and faith. Prophecy, simply, is hearing clearly that voice of the Lord and declaring it over our life.
We have one life, and only what is done for Christ will last into eternity. To follow Jesus is to lay our lives down so that we find life in Him. So to make it count, we need to hear the voice of God, each day to be ready to be changed by him, through repentance and go on to be detemined to put into action that which He is saying to us and thus demonstrate our faith by our obedience. Every day we need to ask, “What is God Saying?” and “What am I going to do about that?”
It was my pleasure to share how the Lord has spoken to me at key stages of my life – through Vet College, coming to faith, being in practice, going overseas as a missionary, church planting in Scotland and now working in prison and Throughcare – to encourage me to hear the voice of the Lord and live prophetically in the challenging days.
