This year’s Royal Veterinary College (RVC) CU weekend away focused on the theme of ‘God’s New Creation’. We spent the weekend reflecting on what the new creation will be like, starting with our first session where we explored Bible verses that highlight the contrast between our present world and the future when Christ returns to rule again. More importantly, we remember how Jesus brought glimpses of heaven to earth, and we too get to play a part in spreading His light in the darkness.
On Saturday morning, we were blessed to have Spencer, the pastor of Potters Bar’s Causeway Community Church speak to us. He helped us delve deeper into the beatific vision in light of the new creation, and the incredible promises it holds. Spencer also highlighted how amazing it will be to experience full union with God in that future reality.
The weekend continued with Session 3, where we had fruitful discussions on how we can better live as Christians in anticipation of the second coming of Christ. Reflecting on a chosen verse, we thought about how we can interact with others and what mindsets we could change. Alongside these thought-provoking sessions, we enjoyed plenty of fellowship with the CU, playing games and sharing meals together.
As one of our introductory activities, we invited members to meditate on a few key Bible verses and then express their reflections through drawings. We’re excited to share a couple of these masterpieces with you!
Matthew 5:16 Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
2 Cor 4:18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
Lastly, a huge thank you to VCF for funding this weekend, your generosity means so much to us. We also want to express our deepest gratitude to Ali, who joined us on the second day. We truly appreciate her for being a familiar face throughout the years, and it was a joy to get to know her dog Florence as well, and who came along with her.
